Preparing for Ramadan is one of the most important steps we all take, and because your refrigerator is the secret to welcoming this month, and to saving you a lot of time while preparing food, pre-storing a number of foods and keeping them in the freezer is one of the most widespread customs in our Arab world due to the large number of guests during this blessed month and the desire to prepare the most delicious dishes in the shortest possible time. Based on real experience, here are the secrets:
-Putting food in the right place: This way you will have an organized refrigerator and at the same time ensure that food gets the temperatures it needs and thus does not spoil quickly. This falls under this arrangement:
*Top shelf: Place breakfast foods such as dairy, cheese and bread.
*Middle shelf: For storing prepared or cooked foods.
*The last shelf: Place foods ready to be cooked the next day, such as chicken, meat, or fish, provided they are not kept for more than one day.
*Drawer: For storing fruits and vegetables.
*The side shelves (located in the refrigerator door): We put eggs, sauces and ketchup, jam and nuts in them, while the last side shelf is for water and juice bottles.
-Wash all fruits and vegetables, dry them completely, then place them in the refrigerator drawer.
Use high-quality food storage containers to preserve food for as long as possible. It is preferable to use glass containers.
Cover exposed dishes with transparent paper.
- Buy refrigerator food organizers sold in large stores if your refrigerator is small.
- Clean the refrigerator shelves at least once a week and dry them well.
You can use absorbent fabric liners on the refrigerator shelves, and some people prefer to put nylon bags in the fruit and vegetable drawer to prevent stains or dirt.
Arrange food items in the refrigerator based on your usage priorities, with the most important items in front of you and the less important items in the back.
- Always check the shelf life of the products in the refrigerator to avoid any rot that may cause other foods to rot.
Sort and rearrange the contents of your freezer in smart ways, such as dividing a large quantity into several small plates. These won't take up the same volume as a single frozen bag of meat, for example. However, dividing the quantity into several plates and arranging them saves a lot of space.
Start preparing a number of time-saving dishes, such as seasoning and freezing kofta or chicken. You can prepare a quantity of ground meat ready to use in any recipe, or if you prefer, prepare some cooking ingredients in advance, such as chicken broth.
