Ways to organize meals for demanding children

You may be alarmed when you learn that one of your children is a fussy eater and is very demanding. Meeting your child's dietary needs can be stressful at times, as they may demand that all their food be red. What can you do?

First, don't lose hope. Most of your children's strange or complex food requests are likely based on a past experience or a phase that will quickly fade. However, there are things you can do to help manage your children's demanding needs, which will help prevent those tastes from developing over time.

Tips for dealing with your demanding children

  • Mix up family meals or tried-and-true recipes with slightly different ingredients. It's a great way to add more vegetables, spices, and new flavors your child loves. Common examples include substituting sweet potatoes for salty potatoes in a "potatoes and fish" meal or replacing regular rice with cauliflower rice in some meals.
  • Involve your little one in preparing food and try to introduce them to different flavors, textures, and ingredients. Watch them enjoy these moments, explain how the dishes are prepared, and let them choose their favorite vegetables for dinner. Bring them a special apron and challenge them to see how many different colors you can use in this recipe.
  • Make sure to mix the ingredients well so your kids have the best possible experience. This applies to adults as well. Discover new recipes and visit different cultures in the kitchen by purchasing a new ingredient each time. You can even make it a game to find the right ingredient with them.

This healthy fondue recipe is a great way to use the familiar flavor of cheese, which will increase their vegetable intake and help them try new tastes.

the components:

To prepare the cheese sauce:

  • 500 ml whole milk
  • 30 grams salted butter
  • finely chopped garlic clove
  • half a teaspoon of mustard powder
  • half a teaspoon of pepper
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg (grated)
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 100 grams of grated cheddar cheese

To prepare the dipping sauce:

  • ½ loaf of sourdough bread, cut into cubes
  • 1 small head of broccoli, cut into small pieces
  • 1 large carrot, sliced
  • 8 asparagus heads
  • 1 small zucchini, cut into cubes
  • a few chopped radishes
  • 2 boiled beets, peeled and cut into cubes
  • 4 pickled cucumbers, whole or sliced

Preparation method:

  • Place the milk, butter, garlic, mustard, pepper, nutmeg, and flour in a saucepan over medium heat and whisk gently for about five minutes until thickened. Add the cheese and whisk gently for a minute until melted and smooth. Let it cool until it's safe for children to handle, then pour it into a bowl.
  • Serve it with bread, vegetables, and tongs or forks to help with dipping. If your kids are hesitant about dipping foods, why not turn it into a challenge? Everyone has to eat the foods at the same time: Three... two... one... go on!
